June's First Weeks

Body Work Continues...

Side pod is really wavy and scratched up. Holes will be filled and the body blocked. Blocking the pod. Ready for primer. Pods are primed.
Pods have been sealed and are ready for final blocking.
Finisehed body work continues on the primary body. Original snap holes are filled. Heavy scratches are filled. Tail restored and filled.
Body in the paint booth. Ready for primer. Other side. Rear seating area ready for prime.
Do you remember the old tail light holes? Getting the job done.
Just about ready. Interior primed.

The dashboard was previously inserted wrong.  The previous builder inserted the dashboard approximately 2 inches into the hood using screws to hold the two pieces together.  I will be drawing the dashboard out using ABS scabs and rivets to hold the two pieces together and fiberglass matting to fuse them.

Scabs holding the two pieces together. Frontal view of dash with scabs. The holes in the dash pod will not be filled as I will make a custom face plate and the holes will be utilized for the standard controls.
I taped the existing wiper and washer holes for a fresh start.
Back-side of dash and hood was ground down and cleaned with acetone and fiberglassed together. I added extra fiberglass to the windshield mounting area of the hood so that it will have a good long lasting base to work with. Underside view of the dash after fiberglassing. Scabs removed. Rivets will be drilled out and finished body work will be done to blend in nicely.

Fuel fill

Remember the big patch in the middle of nowhere, that we did a few weeks back?...
It was for the fuel port hole. I am using a Bully fuel fill door. I arched it to mimic the contour of the hood.
I cut out matting to accomodate the hole. I resined the mat and wrapped the fuel fill in plastic and used it to maintain the proper shape for the fit. After the resin sat up for about an hour, I removed the plastic cover fill door and trimmed the excess matting from the hole with a razor blade before it cured completely.
I back filled the gap between the patch panel and the hood and applied resin to create a sturdy base.
Hood with fuel door on the body. The gas tank will have a separate gas cap that will be removable once the door is open. The door will be spring activated and held closed by a magnet. It will be polished up and something special will be added.
Hood on body, ready for final fit.
